não querias descarbonizar? - ninguém vai salvar-te do que desejas, borboleta…

"Well, the national governments of the EU and US have told their oil companies that they intend to phase out production of fossil fuels, and the multinational oil companies have taken them seriously and are cutting back exploration and development of new oil fields.

Last year, multinational oil companies cut about $1 trillion from their exploration and development budgets, which means they will be producing no new oil. Companies such as BP and Shell seem to have adopted a strategy of winding down the company and going out of business, while making large profits and returning them to shareholders.

This means that in future, OPEC and Russia will be in the driver’s seat for any country that wants to buy oil because they are the only ones who can increase production, and in fact due to geological constraints, there are only about 6 OPEC countries who can increase production. In future, consumers will pay whatever they charge.

Canada is capable of producing much more oil than it does now, and has hundreds of years of reserves, but the Canadian and US governments have blocked export pipelines as part of their environmental policies, so I guess we will just keep producing the same amount and selling it at a somewhat lower price than OPEC or Russia but much higher than today.

There is also the fact that coal and natural gas companies have also cut their spending, nuclear reactors have been scrapped, and electric companies cut $200 billion from their budgets last year, too. Governments have not planned for enough wind and solar to fill the gap, nor enough backup for when the wind doesn’t blow and the sun doesn’t shine, so freezing in the dark while your electric car doesn’t charge may be your only option when your stations run out of fuel, which you probably won’t be able to afford anyway."
